What Causes Acne Breakout In The Underarms After Waxing?

Hi I waxed my underarms and washed it with warm water then I put non allergenic deodorant on it and it started to sting, go red and break out in pimples. I put savlon cream on it and it calmed down a bit. Now a week later it flared up again after I had a shower and put the deodorant on. What do you think happened? Can I go swimming with it and how do I treat it? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

What problems you are facing appears to be an allergic reaction of skin either due to waxing or due to use of deodorant.

Kindly stop using the deodorant spray as it contains alcohol base, which would irritate skin and flare up the reaction.

You can cleanse the affected area with a mild antiseptic solution like Savlon. Apply a cream containing Fusidic acid with Hydrocortisone over the region. Apply moisturizer cream over the region at bedtime.

You can go swimming as it doesn't affect your condition. Gradually, you should be able to overcome the problem and be back to normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
