What Causes Acne On Buttocks?

I havent had problems in the past with acne....now that I am 64, I have acne on the butt cheeks. I went to see a dermatologist after seeing scars on my cheeks with a mirror......he gave me clindamycin phosphate gel to use and sulfamethoxazolee-TMP DS,,,,I dont mind sharing with you that it is painful, unsightly, etc. I work for GP and she had put on an antibiotic, didnt work.....this medicine that the dermatologist wrote the script worked but it took a long time for it to finally take effect. Now, it is back and so painful, I can hardly sit........what do you suggest? (BTW, I have read about personal hygiene and I can safely say I think I do okay........

Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

From your query, I would consider the possibility of furuncles.

Please get a pus culture and sensitivity test done to see what organism is causing it and to check for antibiotic sensitivity.

Please get your blood sugars checked to rule out diabetes.

You could benefit from taking oral cephalexin for 5 days.

You could apply a cream containing 2%mupirocin.

Hot compresses will help.

Hope this helps you.

Take care.
