What Causes Altered Sense Of Taste While On Xarelto?

My husband had knee replacement surgery on Jan. 22. After a 10 day treatment of Xarelto he started taking aspirin 325 mg 2 times daily for 30 days. It has been six days now and he is complaining that all foods are so salty he is unable to eat them. I have never heard of this happening. That is the only thing that has changed is going on aspirin. Have you heard of this.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, metallic taste is found among people who take Xarelto, especially for people who are male, 60+ old, have been taking the drug for a certain duration.

You may have to change the timing of Aspirin intake or decrease the dose of Xarelto.

Please consult your treating doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
