Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 3 year old son, who will be 4 in January, has poop that smells strongly of ammonia. Its been this way for almost a month now. He has been potty trained, except for poop, for 3-4 months now. He spends the majority of his day naked or in underwear. He doesn t wet the bed at night, no accidents when we go out for the day. He has been eating and drinking normally. Thank you for your time, Michele
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have ammonia odor from stools. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like chronic kidney disease , fetor hepaticus or bacterial infection in intestine . It is not a serious condition. Give them plenty of curd or yogurt as a probiotic food . Curd contains beneficial bacteria and will help in gradually reducing the number of other bacteria in intestines and help in relieving the problem. If condition doesn't get well then consult peditrician for proper examination . Doctor may order stool test and take history to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
