What Causes An Altered Sense Of Smell?

Hi. For a couple of weeks now i have been smelling a chemical smell. It almost smells like acrylic or fake finger nails. I thought it was just in my nose, but now it seems like my sweat smells like it too. Also, my sqeat seems thicker than usual...almost oily. Is this something I sgould be concerned about? I am 37, female, and have no health problems that I am aware of. Although I have felt a little sluggish lately.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per your complaint and presentation of symptoms if there is nothing diagnosed in nasal endoscopy and MRI and the common causes like Sinusitis, respiratory infections, allergies, hormonal problem etc are not diagnosed then the cause can be related to certain Neurological causes like Tumours in the brain, nerve injury etc.

You should consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and he can advise you to get a CT SCAN done so that the cause can be ruled out.
Treatment will be planned as per diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
