What Causes An Altered Sense Of Smell?
ok for the past year i have had a strange smell in my nose. I think it is on my hand but no one else can smell. I broke my nose 40 years ago and really haven t been able to smell things which makes this weird smell I m smelling even stranger. It is never there all the time comes and goes and seems like a chemical smell

The symptoms of strange chemical smell through the nose that others cannot experience and no history of bad breath seems consistent with a condition known as Phantosmia.
It can occur due to a number of conditions like nasal infection and polyps, migraines, Oral and dental infection, smoking habit, a condition related to Nervous System like Parkinsonism, Alzheimer's Disease, Stroke, head injury etc.
I will suggest you consult a Medicine Specialist or a Neurologist and get evaluated and along with clinical evaluation investigations like Nasal endoscopy, MRI, CT Scan etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly.
As of now, you can do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation with few drops of Eucalyptus oil in water, chew flavoured sugar-free chewing gum and limit intake of high aroma foods like onion and garlic.
