What Causes An Altered Sense Of Taste After Chemotherapy?

my husband just had his first round of chemo 3 days ago and the pump taking off yesterday hes saying he has had a bad taste in his mouth all day today. Would sucking on a candy of some sort help? he had chemo 4 yrs ago for a different cancer but didnt hve this problem

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Altered sense of taste also known as Dysguesia after Chemotherapy session occurs due to side effect of the chemotherapy drugs that can cause inflammation inside mouth, at times damages taste buds which leads to altered sense of taste..

Other causes can be Zinc deficiency, oral Infection like thrush etc..
So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..
Treatment will depend on the exact cause..

Gradually as the effect of drugs will reduce the taste will improve..
You can also take Vitamin B complex and zinc supplements daily..
