What Causes An Altered Sense Of Taste And Smell?

Hi, A couple days ago I went to bed (late) like I always do. I wasn t especially tired. I usually sleep 7-8 hrs. I slept for a straight 48 hours. A friend stopped by and was unable to wake me.... not even with heavy shaking by the shoulders. I awoke the next day (on the floor next to the bed) and had trouble all day remembering all sorts of normal things. All sorts of things have changed ... like taste, smell and even things like music. I ve never heard of such a thing. I bet you have. What s going on ? Thanks

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I would explain that your symptoms could be related to a sleep disorder or a metabolic disorder.

I recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical exam and some tests:

- a brain MRI study
- a resting ECG
- complete blood count
- blood electrolytes
- thyroid hormone levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
