Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the past several months, I have had a terrible taste enter my mouth, which is then followed by drainage, from my sinus area. The phlegm has a burning sensation, as it goes down my throat. The bad taste is very similar to the smell I notice, when my barncats have have respiratory infections. This takes place about once a week.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of altered sense of taste since several months which is because of dysgeusia and it could be due to sinus infection, B12 deficiency, zinc deficiency, autoimmune diseases and dry mouth. Taste buds of tongue receive taste first and send sensory signals to brain.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to find out the cause and start treatment accordingly. You should take proper course of antibiotics for sinus infection prevention. Use of chewing gums for saliva stimulation. Maintain proper dental hygiene. Use mouthwash for supplementing taste by stopping bacterial growth. If this condition keeps on persisting visit dentist once and start treatment accordingly.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
