What Causes An Altered Sense Of Taste?

I have a bad taste in my mouth. It has been 6 weeks since it first appeared. My dentist had me take some anti fungal medicine for 2 weeks but that did not work. My internist said my mouth looked fine and that I had no symtoms of liver problems or diabetes. I am otherwise healthy with no symtoms of anything else. I exercise 5 times a week for at least 2 hours a day.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain altered sense of taste can be due to common causes like Oral and dental infection, Sinusitis, dry mouth, side effect of medication, respiratory infections, allergies, hormonal problem, Neurological causes like Tumours in brain, nerve injury etc.

You should consult an Oral physician and get evaluated and he can advise you investigation like Oral swab culture, and examination of teeth and gums and also throat to rule out the exact cause..

Treatment will be planned as per diagnosis..

As of now you can mask the bad taste by chewing flavoured sugar free chewing gum, gargle with flavoured antiseptic mouthwash, avoid excess of high aroma food like onion and garlic etc..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
