What Causes An Altered Sense Of Taste?

For the last three days, nothing has tasted good. I have a bad taste in my mouth. Usually I drink Diet Coke and water, but neither taste right. If it were a bad tooth, I would think there would be some discomfort. The only medicine change I have made was to increase the dose of bupropion from 150 mg to 300 mg daily. I started that on February 1st and the brand did not change, matter of fact, I am just doubling dosage from the same bottle.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain altered taste in mouth or bad taste in mouth can be due to a number of causes like tooth decay, deep gum Infection, acid reflux, post nasal drip, tonsil stones, side effect of medication etc..

Dry mouth can also cause altered taste in mouth as reduced saliva flow can cause disturbance in the functioning of tongue Papillae that contains taste buds..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation as per suspected cause can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

Once the cause is ruled out then only appropriate treatment can be advised..
