Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i started isotretinoin 3 months ago. on examining my blood reports i see that the ESR count was 18 mm on the first month of accutane, then 22 mm on the 2nd month and now increased to 65 mm. i read that the ESr must not be more than 20mm for women. i am 25 yrs old and i have been working out regularly since 3 months. i have no infections or fever or cold etc, is this increase in ESR bad? should i stop taking the tablets. Kindly assist.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. Elevated ESR is seen in cases of severe anemia, inflammations or infections, It is also seen cases of various cancers. Isotrenintoin is a retinoid .. usually used to treat Acne. It does not have any effect of raised ESR.. unless you have severe infected acne, You need to evaluate raised ESR.. to find it's cause by through physical examination, few investigations.. followed by cause specific treatment. Please consult your family physician for guidance. Thanks.
