What Causes An Infant To Be In Deep Sleep With Limp Limbs?

3 month old baby wouldn t wake she was in a deep sleep, limbs where limp, breathing was slow, and she didn t even wake when we put cold water on her. Ambulance came and checked in her and said she might be dehydrated or maybe from lack of sleep, they said she should be fine. What could it be should we take her to the er? Or just watch her?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Young babies usually have deep sleep as part of their normal growing process.

Sometimes, when baby could not sleep a day before, he/she can have a deep sleep for longer than usual the other day. This is perfectly normal.

As long as vital signs are ok, and baby is normally functioning, one only episode of deep sleeping is not a cause of concern.

Watch her until she wakes up.

All the best.
