What Causes An Irregular And Painful Menstruation?

I had a tubal ligation and cauterization 15 yrs. ago. I just turned 40 last week. I didn t get my cycle this month. My periods are not irregular as far as when they come on, they are more painful than usual. What could be the problem? My mother had me at 40 yrs old and didn t go through menopause until her 50 s.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* A single episode of irregular and painful menstruation can be due to hormone imbalance, developing endometriosis, uterine inflammation or else.

* If the same is observed over a period of 6 months, upcoming menopause ( that may happen when even your mother had menopause at 50 and you are 40 years old ) with presence of other symptoms as hot flashes or else must be considered.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
