Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my son is 14 . He has complained of a flutter in his heart for three years. Dr first said it was nothing. then ekg was normal. this year they did and echo and left atrium is enlarged. sending us to a specialist. He plays football, swimming, baseball and track. He says he doesn t happen all the time and in no pattern but I had it checked out, what are your thoughts??
It is very important that your son gets the proper checks to determine the cause of the left atrial enlargement and the irregular heartbeat. This is of even higher importance due to his involvement in sports. A problem with the mitral valve should be ruled out and the ultrasound is the examination that should help with this.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
