General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is very important that your son gets the proper checks to determine the cause of the left atrial enlargement and the irregular heartbeat. This is of even higher importance due to his involvement in sports. A problem with the mitral valve should be ruled out and the ultrasound is the examination that should help with this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
