What Causes An Irritating Dry Spot Towards The Base Of Tongue?
I have irritation on the back of my tongue when I swallow. It almost feels like a dry spot and it's confined to just a small area way back on my tongue. It's been irritating me for about a week. I don't see any bumps and I know it's not tonsillitis because I've gotten it several times and it's very different from what I'm experiencing. I couldn't find anything on Google, help?
I have gone through your query and can understand..
As per your complain irritation at the back of the tongue can be due to inflammation and swelling over the circumvallate papillae that are present at the back of the tongue in a typical "v" shaped pattern and contains taste buds.. It can get inflammed due to conditions like eating very hot and spicy food, allergies, throat infection, post nasal drip etc.. You can gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine, do warm saline gargles, take Motrin to reduce pain and inflammation and suck ice pops.. In case of no improvement in one week consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..
Hope this information helps..
