Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
ok here goes, my gf believes that people are constantly contaminating her clothes, sometimes by just looking at them, sometimes while in the wash, that labels are being changed, tags changed etc. in order to make her look crazy. this occurs with her makeup, toiletries, perfumes and more. this behavior is driving me crazy. its a conspiracy that spans socio-economic levels all with the same intent. what do you suggest?
Her symptoms point towards a neurotic condition probably obsessive compulsive disorder. People with OCD experience unwanted and intrusive thoughts (obsessions), which cause them to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors and routines (compulsions) to ease their anxiety. Obsessions are unwanted thoughts, images, or doubts that repeatedly appear in patient’s mind. Compulsions are repetitive activities that patient do. The aim of a compulsion is to try and deal with the distress caused by the obsessive thoughts and relieve the anxiety. They realize that their uncontrollable behavior is irrational, but they feel unable to stop it. Left untreated, OCD may follow a progressive course that can become disabling. Advice 1. Fluoxetine 20 mg every 12 hours per oral for 3 months 2. Alprazolam 0.25 mg at bed time per oral for 3 months 3. Family and social support is needed for total cure of your brother. Your affection and love towards your brother is all which is needed 4. Consult a psychiatrist for better follow up Thanks
