What Causes An Unhealing Open Wound At The Back Of The Calf?

My 84 year old mother has a open wound on the back of her calf that won t heal. Been working with a GP for 3 months. Has been tested and is not staph or Mersa. Very painful, requiring opioids. Home health is changing bandage multiple times each week. We need to get her to the right medical specialist to handle this and do not know where to start.What medical specialty should she see?

Hello,

I think she may need to visit a podiatrist. The problem with the wound not healing may be related to elevated glucose levels and diabetes. She needs to do HbA1c and fasting glucose.
