Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A friend is at the hospital with her son and she said his heart is upside down. Just trying to find out what this means and whether it can be treated. He is in his twenties and apparently this the first they have learned of it. Not much on the internet that I could find. I would be happy with just a link where I could read about this defect.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
As per my knowledge there is no such condition like upside down heart. There is one another condition called dextrocardia in which instead of left side the heart is situated on right side of thoracic cavity.
Please communicate properly with hospital staff and clear the confusion.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards Dr. Hiren
