What Causes Anal Fissures Before Having Period?

About a week before my period I develop an anal fissure. It always goes away when my period starts and it s back again before my next period. I don t have problems with constipation. I have regular BMs, about one-two a day. I m concern that it might be a sign of other underlying condition. I m 31 years old, never been pregnant. I do not have anal sex. Should I contact my gynecologist?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. In the current scenario, I would ask you to see a specialist for a proper clinical evaluation and plan further management. Before the onset of a period, there is increased vascularity in the pelvis leading to pelvic congestion. This can exaggerate any preexisting conditions. Thus, the anal fissure also could be flaring up. Yet, a proper clinical evaluation and investigation is to be done to clarify. Please take adequate rest around your period to relieve pelvic pressure. Take plenty of liquids. Hope this helps.
