What Causes Anemia Post A Hip Replacement Surgery?

Hi I had a hip replacement on Monday. I had been in the hospital til Thursday. They said my blood count was low and sent me home. I went back to the emergency room today because the nurse called and said my Blount count was 6.6. It was actually 7.7 and they sent me home. I am at home and I keep peeing every 10-15 minutes I had been drinking water but stopped about 30 minutes ago.The bottom of my calf is also kindve tight too. Can you please give me some possible explanations? I am also in no pain.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Post surgery hemoglobin can be reduced due to blood loss. But if it reduces further after this reading then it should be matter of concern and should be evaluated by your treating surgeon to rule out internal blood clot or haematoma.

Hopefully my answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Maheshwari
