What Causes Ankle Pain After Recovering From Broken Ankle?

I broke my ankle in December and had to have a plate & pin put in, the ankle has been fine apart from the occasional throbbing where i tore the ligament but yesterday i experienced quite severe pain in my ankle that i was finding it difficult to walk but the pain comes and goes, should i go to the hospital?
