What Causes Ankle Pain While Having Lipoma?

I have a lipoma on the outside of my right ankle. It has been slowly growing over the last 10 years. I have no pain when I walk but if I ave been on my feet for a while and sit down I start to get quite considerable pain in my ankle. What could be causing this pain? Thanks
