What Causes Ankle Swelling And Pain Long After Ankle Sprain?

I suffered a third degree ankle sprain 6 months ago. My ankle is still swollen and aches, with reduced flexibility and strength. However recently I started getting sharp shooting pains down through my foot and my big toe has gone numb. Is this a normal part of the healing process for a very bad sprain? Thanks

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Ankle sprain can give severe pain. Applying compression bandage. Raising the leg higher when sleeping and sitting , ice pack application all helps. It is also better to do an X ray examination and consultation with orthopedician to rule out any fracture. In case of any serious ligament injury surgical correction will be needed also.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
