What Causes Ankle Swelling?

I've become anemic from a heavy menstrual cycle (three weeks)...now on progesterone ...likely from uterine fibroids...I notice my ankles are swollen...what accounts for this?...I'm using a combo of Slow Fe (ferrous sulfate) and natural beet root and chorphyll (Alfalfa) to bring my hemoglobin and hematocrit levels up...should the swelling subside

I'm 54...otherwise healthy...thre children...take synthroid for thyroidectomy 22 years back (cancer)
