What Causes Anxiety After Re-commencing Fluoxetine?
I have been taking 40 mg daily of Fluoxetine for 15 years. I decided to go off of it for awhile and try natural supplements, they didn t work. So I stopped taking the supplements, and started taking Fluoxetine at 20 mg daily for a moth now. The last two mornings I woke up with a lot of anxiety, I ve never had anxiety that bad before. I know I should have consulted with my doctor before I started, but I didn t. I am wondering if I should be taking Fluoxetine every other day, I m not sure why I am feeling anxious. I have an appointment with my doctor on Thursday, I need to know what to do until then so I don t feel so anxious in the morning.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Fluxetine is an anti-depressant drug and since you are prescribed this drug, it means that you have depression. Depression is often accompanied by anxiety in many patients. Thus, an anti-anxiety drug needs to be added along with anti-depressant. I suggest you to consult your psychiatrist with detailed history of anxiety and to add anti-anxiety drug for the ongoing anxiety.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
