What Causes Anxiety And Irritation Despite Being On Imipramine HCL?

ok, i was put on impramine hcl 10mg. It worked great with a calming effect. I'm still alittle short fused. Which I don't care for ..I was on effexor 75mg for 4 yrs and that's out of my system. Dr told me I could take 20mg would that help my irritability? I really hate taking anything but my problem is more anxiety ....I was just wondering???

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Imipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant drug. You have anxiety and irritation and the symptoms are persisting even with this drug. In my opinion the doses of 10 mg are very less and these shouldn't result in much benefit in symptoms. So there is need to increase the doses of the drug to result in better effects. So 20 mg doses would help in your anxiety and irritability.

Apart from this if anxiety persist even on high doses then consult your doctor to prescribe some drug for control of symptoms of anxiety. Low dose benzodiazepines, Propranolol etc are commonly used for control of severe anxiety symptoms. Discuss with your doctor for prescription of these drugs.
