What Causes Appetite Loss And Severe Pain In The Upper Abdomen?

My 58 year old husband has no appetite and has lost 20 pounds in the last month. He has also had right side upper abdominal pain, moderate to severe at times, for the past three months. They thought it was his gallbladder. It was not. He has a small stomach ulcer and has had a heart attack, now with 4 stunts, 9 years ago. Any ideas or suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what your husband had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, he needs to have endoscopy and biopsy of tissue along ulcer as well as H pylori screen and eradication regimen.

Using antacids like Omeprazole before meals alongside Motility agents should be helpful. With such weight loss, stool for occult blood needs to be done along with CEA, AFP and CA 125 levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
