Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Appetite Loss And Weight Gain After A Stroke?
I had a minor stroke and I m recovering well. One thing is I have gained 16 lbs in 6 weeks. I have little to no appetite am eating mostly fruit and veggies, fish no carbs and maintaining a good exercise plan 30-45 minutes 4 times a week. Meds are aspirin, amlodipne, atorvastatin, carvedilol, losartan left foot mildly swells occasionally. What can be causing the extreme weight gain?
I think the weight gain is water retention and not fat deposit. The culprit could be amlodipine which is associated with edema as leg swelling in your case.
I advise reporting this side effect to your cardiologist to change therapy.
Plus, check your liver and kidneys function test to rule out related problems.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
