What Causes Artery Spasm Causing Clotting And Shut Down Of Radial Artery?
Had radial artery access angiogram ca. 5 yrs ago. artery spasmd eventually causing clotting and shut down of radial artery completely. - No right radial pulse for approx 5 years. Recently slight pulse has begun to reappear in right radial artery - much to everyones surprise. BUT and heres the real kicker . within a couple of weeks of the reappearance of the pulse, I suffered multiple pulmonary embolisms and was hospitalised for approx 1 week. traeted with Heparin and now on warfarin for 3 - 6 months. Is it possible that the sudden reapparance of the pulse, indicating that for some reason, the arrtery was coming back on line, has resulted in clots breaking away from the former blockasge and entering the blood steam and thereby causing the embolisms??
Just a theory as I have had no evidence of DVT, have not been at all inactive, nor been on any long car journey. No recent surgery (lasy approx 7 years ago)
Hi, Its great that your Radial artery is clear again. Pulmonary embolism has to be due to venous thrombosis. Even if the clot got dislodged from the Radial artery then it would become too small by the time it crosses the capillary circuit and reach the venous side to lead to significant PE. However, interesting theory nonetheless. Take care and follow your treatment strictly. Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
