What Causes Auditory And Visual Hallucinations In An Alcoholic Addict?
My 48 year old son has marfans syndrome and is an alcoholic. He has spent time in prison and is extremely thin. He has had no etoh in at least 3 months but has developed auditory and visual hallucinations. He also does not sleep. He sees children in his home climbing in and out of the window and they disturb him by whispering. He called 911 and went to the ER and because he has a history with them of alcohol intox they accused him of drugs or alcohol. They would not do a drug or alcohol test . Could he have AIDS or wet brain. I don t know how to help him! YYYY@YYYY
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Chronic alcoholics tend to develop vernick s encephalopathy. It is permanent damage of part of brain. This can cause auditory and visual hallucinations. So better to consult neurologist and get done MRI brain for the diagnosis of vernick s encephalopathy. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your son. Thanks.
