Hi,
Severe upper
back pain that radiates to the ribs can be caused by a variety of factors, including issues with the spine or musculoskeletal system, as well as internal organ problems. Given your history of changes in your upper spine seen on X-ray, your back pain may be related to a spinal issue. However, it is also possible that your
chest infection or recent surgeries could be contributing to your symptoms.
It is important to follow up with your healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause of your back pain and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Additional testing, such as an MRI or
CT scan, may be recommended to further evaluate your spine and surrounding structures.
In the meantime, you may benefit from
physical therapy, stretching, and other non-pharmacologic treatments to help manage your pain. It is also important to quit
smoking, as smoking can contribute to a variety of health problems, including back pain.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
