What Causes Bacterial Vaginosis Inspite Of Using Antibiotics?

I m 24, been on birth control since I was 17. I have a serious issue with BV and I m not sure how long I ve had it but I discovered it a year ago with symptoms mostly of strong unpleasant odor and discharge. I started dating someone new then and he noticed it right away before we ever had sex and we played it safe with condoms and I went in right away to get treated with antibiotics and also tested for STD s and he as well. He had already had tests done just before we met but wanted to be on the same page with me to feel secure that we were both clean. The antibiotics seemed to work and we still used condoms for awhile after until we felt comfortable enough knowing each other to have sex without them since I was on birth control. Our situation was unique in that we spent almost every day together and still to this day over a year now. We have traveled a lot and lived in an area where we didn t know a lot of people so we ve just had each other. The problem with the BV is that it has continued to come back immediately after the antibiotics week after week and month after month. We have gone to clinics and even ER visits every month trying to figure out what is going on with me and us. We have taken tests every month and they always turn out clean and they just end up giving us more antibiotics to treat the BV. We figured out that we did have trichominisis when we both started showing symptoms of that and we treated that right away. It was probably from me, I have a high risk past with men and sex without condoms my new boyfriend had never experienced an STD or parasite symptoms. The BV still remained after treatment and still does to this day.. We have a great relationship especially sexually but he can t stand the smell of the BV and it makes it uncomfortable for us. We are sick of me taking antibiotics and no results and we think part of the problem is because I have damaged all my natural good bacteria and can t fight this off. I also for over 6 months now have had new symptoms that are similar to someone going through peremenopause such as:BV (Extreme unpleasant odor) Unpleasant discharge Severe dryness... even when aroused and during sexual activity Small razor like cuts, even without sexual activity abnormal cervix Periods lasting only a day or two Spot bleeding before period or a week after Bleeding during sex Extreme hair loss Serious mood swings Fatigue. It appears that my urethra has moved and is dropping from the top and is hard to find my cervix Pelvic pain Side pain,Pain during sex. Some of these symptoms have tapered off but they started early winter and some have stopped as of the beginning of June. We are trying a natural remedy with apple cider vinegar, baking soda and yogurt probiotics. I eat very well mostly organic health foods and the BV has still not gone away. What the hell is wrong with me and what do I have??!! Do I have cancer? Or something rotting inside of my sexual organs? I feel like the odor is from a serious infection deep inside me causing severe bad bacteria that can not be fought off. If not we are wondering if it s because my hormones are messed up from being on birth control for so long and my thyroid medication. ?? I need answers and need this gone for good.. please help!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you should use Lactobacillus supplements to help you re-establish the vaginal flora. Using antibiotics so often may have changed the microbial balance and causing re-occurrence of the bacterial vaginosis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
