What Causes Bad Body Odor, Chills And Stiffness In The Joints?

I am bathing six times a day using four or more cleansing products at a time. My skin began to dry out so I started using one at a time. I noticed that while bathing the wash cloth smells awful as if I had just began to bathe, and my body still has an odor. Any foods or drinks I consume has an affect on my body odor. As time went on I noticed my neck, chest, nostrils, behind my ears, and buttocks all have odor. Then my skin began to smell better and that s when it hit me, the odor is coming from inside my body. Intimacy is both uncomfortable and causes strong body odor even after bathing/douching. At times I feel nauseous and I have vomited. While eating I get sick and have to throw out the rest of my meal. I have stiff joints, and even pain during and after exercise. I feel light headed alot while sitting and standing, and I often get cold chills. I wonder if I m going through menopause/diabetes/acidosis/thyroid/anemic or another sickness. Not sure if this matters but I m a black 39 year old female. I have changed my diet of fast food/sweets as of May 2016, to eating a vegetarian diet and I have always exercised since childhood. Just so you know, that is a lower case L in my email address. I forgot that I also lose circulation in my limbs sometimes. The odor smells like acid or a deterioration.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Diabetes, for one, is a cause for a body smell, so a blood sugar test would be in order. Some metabolic diseases such as Trimethylaminuria (TMAU) may alter body odor.

Also, certain cancers, such as ovarian cancer can be a cause for the discreet smell.

There is also the possibility that the smell is not real, is subjective or is related to an olfactory distortion or very high-stress levels.

I strongly recommend you see a doctor verify whether there is a basis to this smell perception.

Before visiting the doctor, I recommend you stop using any cosmetic products, perfume, deodorants, shampoo or scented soap to avoid masking the odor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
