What Causes Bald Spot With Bump On Scalp?

I discovered a bald spot on my scalp with a bump in the middle of it. I thought it was ring worm but there is no ring around the area. The bump isnt really tender to the touch, it feels somewhat firm. It is about the size of a lentil and the bald spot is about the size of a nickle or dime. Any ideas of what this could be and how to treat it?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello, a single bald spot on the scalp discovered incidentally could be alopecia areata, the bump could be just folliculitis, ringworm infection of the scalp is rare in adults.
I would adv you to visit a dermatologist for evaluation.
The treatment of single patch alopecia areata in adults consists of intralesional steroids, while a single lesion of folliculitis can be managed by topical antibiotics.
Thanks
Take care
