What Causes Bilateral Neck Pain?

For about a week, I have had bilateral neck pain--relatively severe but lessened and generally relieved by OTC medications. I am concerned that it is something bigger such as a jugular thrombosis but cannot find info on whether that would me masked by Aleve.

Hello dear user!
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns!
Thank you for sharing them on healthcaremagic.
Bilateral neck pain may come from different reasons. Inflammatory diseases of the neck bones and muscles, muscles contractions, spondyloarthrosis, blood vessels (arteries) shrinking, etc. Inflammatory diseases and contractions are sensitive to anti inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen and the symptoms will go away, they are temporary. If they are caused by shrinking arteries or damaged neck vertebra, then a more specific treatment is required. If your symptoms don't go within some days by painkillers and muscular relaxants, I would recommend you a neck x-ray and a consultation with your primary doctor to lead you though the diagnostic procedures.
