Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have bilateral pain in my breasts, they are not lumpy but they are very tender from the sides and the pain extends to the armpit sometimes. It comes and goes but it has been severe the last couple of days. My mother says it could be fibroadenosis (I am 36) but I am worried it could be something else since my mother s sister recently died of breast cancer. Should I visit a surgeon or my OBGYN or what should I do for diagnosis?
Bilateral breast pain is rarely caused by breast cancer. The most common reason is change associated with hormones that occur in many females. Fibroadnosis is also one reason. So it's very unlikely to be caused by breast cancer.
However, in the context of such a strong family history, I would advise you should see your doctor and discuss with him/her. You may need some genetic testing to know about your risk of having it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
General & Family Physician
