What Causes Black And Blue Discoloration On The Arm After Bee Sting?
I was raking three days ago and got into some ground bees. I did not even realize I was stung but my arm above my wrist swelled up so I assumed I did. I had four or five dots that looked like bee stings in the swollen area. It has been turning black and blue. Tonight I notice the black and blue go further up my arm. Should I be worried?
Bee bites don't go right away. You may have allergic reactions to the bee Sting.
Remove any & all stingers that are visible. Wash with water or vinegar though that may not neutralize the poison because it gets injected under the skin & slowly spreads in the deeper tissues.
Swelling, inflammation & pain are due to an allergic reaction. Take non-sedating antihistamines for relief.
Black & blue discoloration is due to the clotting of blood. Apply Thrombophob ointment locally.
It should slowly reduce but if you start getting dizziness, vertigo, fever & hallucinations you should immediately visit ER for you may need medical support & symptomatic treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
