I have been spitting sputum with black and gray specks for 3 weeks. It started after i went to a doctor and had antibiotics for one week because i saw blood in my sputum. After a week the blood went away. Now, i started to cough and produce transparent phlegm with black /gray specks in it. Also, it has been a month since i quit smoking. I had xray and some laboratory exams and they turned out to be normal and good. What is this? Thank you.
Hi. Thanks for your query and an elucidate history related to quitting smoking, coughing with black specks, no blood on sputum at the moment.
All these problems may be due to the retained soot of the smoke getting removed or your catching up from the dusty atmosphere or from fumes or may be retained .
I would advise you the following. First of all send the phlegm for detailed tests like gram staining, culture and sensitivity, prence of blood/ fungus or so.
Get started on pepperedications, take multivitamins for better healing of mucosa. Further treatment as per clinical evaluation and reports of investigations.
