What Causes Black Color Blood During Periods?

Hi I am 20 years old. I have irregular periods. I consulted gynacologyst. She gave regestone tablets. I took 10 tabs , 3 on each day. After 5 days I get menses with thick black colour blood. What causes the black colour ? the amount of black/brown colour blood is very small. Could you please let me know whwther it is an issue?
