Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been experiencing a black tongue for years now. I was diagnosed a couple times with thrush was treated but it returned several times I eliminated the mouth wash I was using and it we t away but has returned....could it be the prilosec that I have been taking
As per your query you have black discoloration on the tongue which occurs when papillae become irritated and slightly swollen. Apply anti-fungal ointment on vaginal lips as it will give better effects. Bumps on tongue generally doesn’t require treatment and clears up within 1 to 2 weeks. You should coat the bumps well will antiviral ointment containing Acyclovir. Do warm saline rinses 2 to 3 times a day.
If condition doesn't get better in few days then consult an oral pathologist for proper checkup and rule out condition like herpes or canker sore. Drink plenty of liquids and vitamin supplements. For pain and if you also have fever Tylenol can be taken. Maintain good oral hygiene and drink plenty of water.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
