What Causes Black Eyes Post A Self Injury?

I had a piece of pipe fall and hit me in the top of my forehead several days ago and put a large knot on my head, the knot has gone down considerably but today I have 2 black eyes, I thought if I was going to get a black eye it would have come much quicker not 3 or four days later

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your black eye.

If you had much bigger swellings of your eyes after the fall and now the swelling are decreasing or vanished permanently this is then normal. Because whenever there is hematoma for first 24 to 48 hours there is only swelling not discoloration because of the normal blood colour but when the blood keeps outside the vessels for long time the acidic environment makes it brownish black.

The black colour appear after 2-3 days, so you don't need to worry.

If you have red or black eyes inside your pulpabral fissures (main white of eye), this can be the fracture of your face( Lefort fracture). You need to visit then a head and neck surgeon for further evaluating.

Hope the answer to your query.
Regards
Dr Muzaffer.
