What Causes Black Mucous Discharge After Having Copper IUD?

Hi,I have a copper IUD that was inserted 18 months ago. Initially I had the usual side effects of cramping and additional heavy bleeding but that all settled down after a few months. It has been fine up until the last few months when I have started to develop very dark brown, almost black stained mucousy discharge after my period for approx 7 days each month. It is not foul smelling and I have not had any unprotected sex with a new partner in the last year. When my periods are there it does not smell and I am getting usual cramps. I have no pain in between my period. I m concerned due to how dark the discharge is and how it lasts for a considerable length of time. Can you advise me of what to do? Thanks

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The black colored discharge could be altered blood.
I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment and to determine the nature of black colored discharge.

Thanks and take care
