What Causes Black Palm/fingers While On Xeloda For Stomach Cancer?
My father (86 years old) is a stomach cancer patient taking oral chemo therapy (Xeloda 500 mg 3 times a day for 15 days - two courses already over). Now his palm and fingers turned black. Is it due to the side effect of this tablet or any other cancer complication is developing ? Pl. guide me.
Good morning. Blackening of palms fingers and soles is a side effect of XEloda therapy. It is known as hand foot syndrome. it is a commonly seen side effect and need not to worry. As long as thee is no ulceration and peeling of skin it will not cause any harm and treatment need not to be discontinued. You can apply some skin emolients and moisturisers to keep skin moist and thus preventing peeling of skin. regards
