What Causes Black Pasty Stool In A 10 Month Old Child?

My 10 month old has had black pasty stool for 2 days now. Only one bowl move a day and acts normal just a little whiney but is also teething. Should I take him in or wait until tomorrow when his dr office is open and seek advise then. I don t want to wait and something bad happen but I also don t want to sit in the er with a fussy baby and sick people for hours unless it s necessary.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your 10 month old child have symptoms of black pasty stool which is a sign of bleeding mainly upper intestinal as gastritis and duodenitis. it could be due to lack of fibres in diet. It can be due to bleeding ulcer too and sometimes due to constipation. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take plenty of fluids in diet along with multivitamins. I would suggest you to visit pediatrician once and get complete examination done. You should get stool test done as well. You should get it monitored soon as sometimes it can cause lowered hemoglobin level in body. You should take oral rehydrating solution and along with that take diet rich in fibres.
