What Causes Blackish Discoloration On The Lower Lip?
i am a female/29 years old. i have a black ( discolouration) in the middle of my lower lip .it is non tender or no growth is seen. it looks the same in size. i am noticing this since 2 years and a great concern for me. just want to know, what could be the reason for it and the ways to prevent it. i am eagerly waiting for reply. thanks in advance dr.
I can understand your concern. Sometimes some people have black pigmentation on lip or some other area of the oral cavity without any pathology associated with it. It is just melanin pigmentation. Are you a smoker? Smokers often have this type of discoloration in their oral cavity.
I would advise you not tow rooy about it unless it increases in size, shows some growth or ulcerates. If your concern is cosmetic, then you can consult a dentist or plastic surgeon to discuss ways to remove the dislcoloration like laser therapy. Otherwise, you can just observe it for any changes and not worry unless it changes.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
