What Causes Blank Stares?

my friend who is still in highschool gets into these blank stares. She says that she does not remeber anything that went on when she comes to and also they are getting more constant and lasting longer. She went to the hospital and got multiple CAT scans done but every test has came back fine. I was wondering what it could be that is causing these symptoms?
