What Causes Bleeding After Intercourse?

hi i had sex yesterday morning and yesterday night so i thot i wud take an i pill today within 24hrs from last nyt but i gt my periods in the early morning and my last period was 10days back.So shud i consider this as a new period or ovaluation bleeding and can i take i pill now????please help me

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) It is NOT like your normal period. Mild to moderate bleeding during or after intercourse may be due to hymen rupture, rough sex, blunt trauma, vaginal infection or dryness (lack of lubrication), endometriosis, cervical polyp etc.

Most of time, this type of bleeding stops automatically within 3-5 days. If you did unprotected sex during your fertile period, then you should take I-pill to avoid unwanted pregnancy.

2) Use proper lubrication during sex and maintain genital hygiene. Medicine like Tranexamic acid can be taken for 3 days to arrest bleeding temporarily.

3) Lastly, I suggest you to consult with gynecologist if bleeding continues more than 3 days. One ultrasound scan is advisable to detect uterine or cervical pathology (if any). Maintain genital hygiene. Good luck.
