What Causes Bleeding After Intercourse?

Iam 24 yr old girl. I have irregular periods because of PCOD- Hypothyroidism. My boy friend is 28 yr old. We have been having sex from past 3 yrs. We enjoy foreplay a lot. This time it so happened that while having foreplay, he inserted his fingers into my vagina for 5 minutes. We enjoyed the act. But after he removed his fingers, we could see blood on his fingers. I also started bleeding for whole day. I am confused whether it was my monthly periods or something else. Is there anything to panic. Please help.
