What Causes Bleeding After Urination During Pregnancy?

hi i am 11wk pregnant and have had traces of blood for the last 5 days only after urination, i have no pain and there are no clots. The blood is only visable when i wipe after urination and is not enough to fill a panty liner seems to only come after i go to the toilet - I have been to a&e they say nothing is wrong but only took a urine sample, temperature and blood pressure - any ideas as to what it could be? Getting really worried now - due my first scan next week

You are most concerned due to the advice received at a&e.

The blood in the urine will never be in streaks. It is mixed uniformly in the urine. So I shall discard blood in the urine.

The likelihood conditions are:

1. Local minor scratch near the external urinary opening, may be due to wiping harshly. You can observe that in the mirror also. If so, local application of some antibiotics cream will give you relief.

2. Could be that the placenta is getting separated and threatening either to bleed or to abort. In that case, you may be put on Progesterone for stabilizing the pregnancy. Ultrasonography will reveal the status.

3. Could be erosion of the mouth of the uterus (cervix) bleeding a little bit. In fact during pregnancy, there is always erosion of the cervix. This erosion is due to high levels of oestrogen and not due to infection. Usually it does not bleed.

Instead of a&e, please get examined internally from the Obstetrician to clinch the diagnosis. Till your ultrasonography scan is done, please take bed rest and have no hectic activities. Avoid lifting up the weights.
